The embellishments we choose can really add to the finished feel of a garment, taking a garment that is relatively plain and turning it into more of a reflection of our character and personality. This aspect of the garment-making process is a lot of fun, because it involves pulling together stylistic and design elements alongside the more fundamental structure of the garment, and seeing how the two work together. In other words — we get to play!

In this class, I talk about lots of different ideas of where and how you can embellish in a relatively easy way. Examples range from how to jazz up buttons, to using trims and bindings creatively, to combining and bridging fabrics, to hem and cuff treatments, and more. I also discuss design principles like “containment” and how to find complementary fabrics. Join me and get your creative imagination flowing!
